Army Development

Gold is the the most valuable currency in the game. Do not spend it if you have alternatives to get what you want.
It is very tempting to revive troops with gold, as it is fast and easy. You can recover fallen troops fast to engage in battle.
But it is a bad practice you should avoid.

Troops defeated in attack should only be revived using Sacred Potions produced in your Temple or from gift chests. You should kill troops you won´t be able to revive with sacred potions before their revival expiration date.
And even before that date as troops that are available to revive count in the Army upkeep count expenses (you need to produce food for them too until you kill them or they die after 7 days of being defeated).

Troops defeated in defence can be revived using silver instead.

In short, only use sacred potions or silver to revive your defeated troops.

Gold should only be used to revive Mercs and Captains.

The way to keep your army growing in number is by being constantly training troops. It takes food, silver and time. Not gold. The most valuable of these three things is training time.

Helen is the only Captain whose features are Food Production Speed and Troop Training Speed. She is a great help in speeding the training time. She is a Legendary Captain which means she speeds up the training time of your troops by 1% per level. If her level is 12% she will speed the process by 12%.
Choose her BEFORE training any troop in the Barracks. That will result in less time demanded to complete the training. Once launched the task you can dismiss her right away. You do not need to keep her while the training process is running to speed it up.

Ask for Help after launching the training. For every clan member click on Help, you get an additional 1% speed up in the process. The number of clicks on Help you can get is the same as your Capitol level.
After being helped by all or almost all number of helps available, you can then use Speedups to finish the process.

Long story short, spend food, silver and time not gold. Save time by using Helen. Level her up periodically (one great opportunity to do this is during Archne Swarm), save extra time asking for help to you clan fellows and use seepdups to finish the training. You get Speed ups from gift chests, as reward during events and on the Triumphal Challenge Shop.
